One of the Last Letters of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook

Letter written by the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook to the Gaon Rabbi Benzion Uziel, warmly recommending the Gaon Rabbi Fischel Hacohen, one of the important rabbis of Tel Aviv. Summer 1935.

The letter was sent in Sivan 1935, ten weeks before the passing of the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook, the founder of the Israeli Cheif Rabbinate, to the Gaon Rabbi Benzion Chai Uziel, the rav of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and eventually, the Rishon LeZion.

The letter is typewritten and with the handwritten signature of the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook and is one of the last things he did for rabbis who immigrated to Eretz Yisroel.

In his letter, he recommends the Gaon Rabbi Fischel Cohen, a leading Rav in Poland before and after the war.

Rabbi Kook asks Rabbi Uziel to offer him a position in the Rabbinate of Tel Aviv. Indeed, the Gaon Rabbi Fischel Cohen was appointed Dayan and for a short time even served as Av Beis Din of Tel Aviv.

On the letter, Rabbi Uziel hand-wrote the date it was received - a long time after Maran Rabbi Kook's passing.

The Gaon Rabbi Fischel Hacohen [passed away in 1980] was a disciple of the holy Gaon of Ostrovtza and close to the Imrei Emes and the Beis Yisroel of Ger. Was the Rav of the Neveh Sha'anan neighborhood of Tel Aviv. His son is the Gaon Rabbi Shimon Cohen and his grandsons include the famed Geonim Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen and Rabbi Yehoshua Hacohen, author of Kerem Chemed.
