Polemic of the Etz Chaim and Chayei Olam Institutions of Jerusalem 1897

Signatures of the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Avraham Eliezer Mintzberg (Reb Avrumche) Av Beit Din of Jozefow and leader of the Polish Chassidim of Jerusalem, on a document dealing with the conflicts between the Etz Chaim and Chayei Olam institutions of Jerusalem - Jerusalem, Tamuz 1897

The letter deals with the conflicts between the Etz Chaim and Chayei Olam institutions of Jerusalem pertaining to funds that were raised in the USA. A compromise agreement was signed in Shevat 1894. However, since one of its clauses was misinterpreted, an additional document was written, detailing the meaning of the first one.

The document is dated the 19th of Tamuz 1897.

Appearing at the end of the document is the signature of Reb Avrumche: "Avraham Eliezer Mintzberg" and the signature of an additional Dayan: "רפאל [?] בהר"י/בהר"מ זללה"ה".

At the end of the document, another passage was added from the 15th of Tamuz 1897, which was again signed by these two rabbis, stipulating that since the managers of Etz Chaim had no intention of keeping the agreement from Shevat 1894, it was null and void.

The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Avraham Eliezer Mintzberg (1831-1904) was the son-in-law of the holy Rav Rabbi Yitzchak David Biderman, the son of the holy Rav Rabbi Moshe of Lelov. In ca. 1850, he was appointed Av Beis Din of Jozefow. In 1879, he immigrated to the Holy Land, settling in Jerusalem, and became leader of the Chassidic-Polish community.
