Lengthy scholarly glosses handwritten on the margins of the sheets! Chukei Chaim, by Rabbi Chaim Avraham Gagin. Jerusalem, [1842]. 


Sefer Chukei Chaim, Shut and Likutim on the Shas and the Poskim by the Chacham Bashi and Rishon LeZion, the Kabbalist Rav Rabbi Chaim Avraham Gagon. Yisroel Bak Press, Jerusalem, [1842]. With many handwritten glosses. 


[2], 170 leaves. Owner's notation on the title page. With more than [20] handwritten, scholarly glosses, some of them lengthy. 


The Kabbalist Rav Rabbi Avraham Chaim ben Rabbi Moshe Gagin, Agan  (1787-1848) immigrated in his youth from Kushta to Jerusalem and studied at its yeshivas. As the Rishon LeZion and the Rosh Yeshiva of the Beis El Kabbalists Yeshiva of Jerusalem, he was appointed in 1842 as the first Chacham Bashi in Eretz Yisroel. Author of Shut Chukei Chaim (Jerusalem, 1842),   the book of sermons, Chaim BeYerushalayim (Jerusalem, 1842) and more. The Rav helped Yisroel Bak open the first printery in Jerusalem and even printed two of his books there. 


Renewed binding. Stains and moth holes. Some of the glosses are cut and blemished at the edges of the lines due to the cutting of the leaves. Folds and blemishes to the corners of the last leaves. One of the glosses is torn and is almost completely missing. Taping to the verso of the last leaf. fair-good condition.
