Small silver bowl, apparently used for collecting charity. Beginning of 19th century.
Cast silver (stamped with silver hallmark and manufacturer's stamp: TD), unadorned.
On inside of bowl there are two round stamps, engraved in the utensil's sides [some are illegible]: "Ge[mach] Holy Community of P[ressburg] 1818".
The Pressburg community, one of the oldest Hungarian communities, became the Jewish Torah focal point of Hungary with the arrival of Rabbi Moshe Sofer, author of "Chatam Sofer" (1792-1839) who served as Rabbi of Pressburg from 1807 until his death.
