Autograph letter by R. Chaim Shmuelevitz, personally inviting a contemporary to “the wedding of my daughter Ettil”, to the famed R. Nochum Partzovitz.
R. Chaim Leib Shmuelevitz (1902-1979), was born in Kovno to R. Alter Shmuelevitz, a son in law of the Alter of Novardok. He studied under his father and then under R. Shimon Shkop in Grodno where he was known as a prodigy, being appointed as the Yeshiva’s youngest Maggid Shiur. In 1925 he joined the Mirrer Yeshiva and in 1930 he married the daughter of its Rosh Yeshiva R. Eliezer Yehuda Finkel. In 1936 he was appointed as a Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir Yeshiva, which he led with tremendous devotion through the tumultuous exile in Shanghai and later its reestablishment in Yerusholayim until his passing.
R. Nochum Partzovitz (1923-1986), was born in Trok and was one of the most prominent students of both R. Baruch Ber Leibowitz, R. Elchanan Wasserman and later Yeshivas Mir. During the war he was with the Mir Yeshiva in Shanghai. In 1951 he married Ettil, the daughter of the Mirrer Rosh Yeshiva R. Chaim Shmuelevitz. In 1952 he was appointed as a Rosh Yeshiva, a position he served until his passing. He taught thousands of students and was one of the most prominent Magidei Shiur of his era.
