Historical document consisting of nine lengthy clauses detailing the appropriate behavior required while attending Shul. With headings in Hebrew and details in Yiddish-Deutch, these provide a fascinating glimpse of halachic etiquette in Nineteenth Century Ashkenaz. Signed and stamped by Rav Shimshon Refoel Hirsch during his tenure as Rav in Nikolsburg and “Lands-Rabbiner” of Moravia.
R. Shamshon Refoel Hirsch (1808 –1888), was a disciple of Chacham Isaac Bernays and R. Yaakov Ettlinger (Aruch L’Ner). Known as an outstanding Talmid Chochom, he served as Rav in various communities in Germany most notably Frankfurt. He battled mightily and incessantly against the reform movement and under his devoted leadership the Orthodox Jewish community in Germany blossomed. Founder of the “Torah im Derech Eretz” philosophy, his contribution to Torah-true Judaism is immeasurable.
Rav Hirsch’s tenure in Nikolsburg was particularly tumultuous, as he struggled to preserve Torah true Judaism in a non-receptive environment. It is well known that whilst in Nikolsburg he had no time for his writings, hence none of his many written works were published during that period.
29.5 by 46 cm. Excellent condition.
