Classic commentary on the Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim by R. Mordechai Zev Ettinger and his brother in-law R. Yosef Shaul Natansohn. The commentary is subdivided into two parts; Elef Ha’Mogen and Shiltei Ha’Giborim, printed surrounding the text of the Shulchan Aruch.
R. Mordechai Zev Ettinger (1804-1863), was a nephew and student of R. Yaakov of Lissa (Chavas Da’as). He was renowned as one of the greatest Talmidei Chachomim in Galicia and authored various seforim together with his brother in law R. Yosef Shaul Natansohn.
R. Yosef Shaul Natansohn (1810-1875), was born in Galicia, and from the year 1857 until his passing, served as the Rav of Lemberg. His reputation as an extraordinary Talmid Chochom and Posek spread throughout the world, and thousands of questions were sent to him. His responsa were published in his classic work Sho’el U’Maishiv.
