In the late 1800’s a major kashrus controversy erupted in Eastern Europe. As coffee was very expensive and financially out of reach of many impoverished Jews, a new brew was introduced called Tzikoria. Made of Chicory and Coconut it soon became widely popular. Upon kashrus inspection however, fat was detected in the brew and a tremendous controversy ensued, with some parties claiming that the fat was lard. The controversy swept across Europe and hundreds of letters were written by Rabbonim with some forbidding and others permitting. This pamphlet is a collection of letters regarding the subject, and includes letters from many Rabbonim including the Divrei Chaim, The Shinniva Rov, The Yeshuos Yaakov, R. Shimon Sofer, R. Yehoshua Horowitz of Dzikov and many others.
