Hebrew Concordance, elucidating every word and its grammatical root in Tanach, by R. Mordechai (Issac) Nathan. Includes many additions published here for the first time, including Toldos Aaron, which lists all the Biblical verses quoted in the Talmud. With elaborate woodcut design on the title page.
The Meir Nesiv was the first Bible concordance in Hebrew, and was distinguished from the similar Latin work of Arlotus in that its vocabulary was arranged in the order of the grammatical roots. This monumental work, on which the author worked for ten years, aimed to facilitate the study of Biblical exegesis and to prevent apostates from making incorrect quotations from the Bible, as was often the case. For hundreds of years the Concordance has been an indispensable work used as a primary reference by both scholars and laymen.
Vinograd Basle 172. Ambresau Phrebinau press. 400 pages. 37 cm. Excellent condition, some tape on title page partially obscuring woodcut design. One small hole on title page not affecting text. Magnificent antique leather binding.
Opening bid 300$
