Several photos, illustrations and a map appear in the book.
The first Jewish settlers in Suriname in the 17th century were Spanish and Portuguese Marrano Jews. The Dutch granted rights to the Jewish immigrants and allowed the establishment of an autonomic Jewish territory in Suriname named Joden Savanne. The community supported itself mainly by growing sugarcane.
63 pp + [2] plates, 24 cm. Good condition. Creases, stains and minor defects (primarily to margins). Closed and open tears, damaged cover. Detached front cover.
