Collection of Letters and Photographs – Jewish Family from Alexandria – 1940s and 50s Approximately 55 letters, documents and photos, which belonged to the Weinblatt family from Alexandria. Alexandria, Bulawayo (Zimbabwe), Milano and other places, 1940s-1950s.
* Eight studio and group photos of the family. Five are stamped by photographers from Alexandria: "Alban" [Alban Arman?], "Photo Roy" and "S.M. le Roi", and four with signed with penciled (on the paper).
* Approximately 20 letters and documents from 1946-1947, handwritten and typewritten, documenting the efforts of Jean Weinblatt to locate a family member in Africa. Among other attempts, Jean corresponded with acquaintances and representatives in Bulawayo (Zimbabwe), Cape town and Pretoria, from whom he heard of the death of his relative. Further in the letter, Jean corresponds with representatives of the Cape Jewish Board of Guardians from Cape Town regarding erecting a tombstone in his relative's memory in the city's Jewish cemetery (a sketch of the tombstone is enclosed with one letter and a photo of the tombstone after its erection is enclosed with another letter). * Marriage permit, printed and filled in by hand, signed by Chaim Nachum Effendi, Chief Rabbi of Egypt, issued in 1940. Ink-stamped by the Egyptian Chief Rabbinate and bearing other stamps as well. French.
* 20 letters exchanged among family members during the 50s (most were sent by the mother of the family, from Milano); other items.
Size and condition vary. Overall good-fair condition.
