Collection of letters from a soldier who served in the British Army and in the Brigade and documents of the estate of Meir Darvish who fought in the Israeli War of Independence. [1930s-40s].
The collection contains: 35 letters sent to Meir Darvish from his cousin, Marcel (Menachem) Eliyahu Milhe who also served in the British army and the Jewish Brigade from 1941-1944. Milhe recounts his and his brother's experiences during their army service. Some letters were sent to Darvish from another person named Nahmias. * 15 documents from the days of the War of Independence (and the time close to the war), during Darvish's service in the Company headquarters of the 9th Division (movement commands, medical authorization, leaf of "daily routine orders", copies of letter, a humorous leaf for a Chanuka party, etc.). * 35 letters in English from 1948, sent to Darvish by his girlfriend Lily (whom he later married). * A few dozen letters sent to Darvish by friends and family members during the 30s and 40s, family documents and other paper items.
Size and condition vary. Defects (primarily tears and filing holes) to some items.
