Plan der Stadt Wilna - Vilnius Miesto Planas.
Large 4-color map (scale 1:15,000) with text in German and Lithuanian. On verso is a comprehensive listing of all street names throughout the city. The two Jewish ghettos are colored in brown. Lightly browned. 26 x 38 inches.

1942.

Vilnius, know to Jews as Vilna - the "Jerusalem of Lithuania," is today the capital of the Republic of Lithuania. It is estimated that of the 265,000 Jews living in Lithuania in June 1941, 95% were murdered during the course of the German occupation. No other Jewish community in Nazi-occupied Europe was so comprehensively destroyed. In September 1941, the German military administration (aided by Lithuanian auxiliaries) established two ghettos in Vilna. In periodic killing operations, most of the ghetto`s inhabitants were massacred in the Ponary Forest, located eight miles outside of the city. Soviet forces liberated Vilna in July, 1944.
