Rabbi David HaCohen Sekali (1872-1949) was a Kabbalist, Dayan and Av Beit Din of Oran, Algeria, author of the books of the Kiryat David Chana Responsa, sermons on the Torah Lech David, David Baruch and more. In the city of Devedo, in Morocco, to Rabbi Moshe HaCohen Sekeli and Rachel, daughter of Rav Etzen ben Shmuel, at the age of 13 he began to study Torah with Rabbi Avraham ben Sussan and later with Rabbi Aharon HaCohen.
In 1896, he moved to the city of Tlemcen, Algeria, where he taught Torah to members of the Jewish community together with Rabbi Chaim Bleich. Later, in 1900, he was asked to come to teach Torah in the city of Oran, at the yeshiva of Rabbi Avraham Hassan. In 1913 he was appointed Dayan in the city alongside Rabbi Michael Ben Sa'id, and later succeeded the position of Ra'avad in the Oran court.
In addition to his practice in Jewish law and halakhic rulings, he also dealt with kabbala, and he practiced chassidut and celibacy. In his writings there are many references to the Zohar and the letters of the Ari.
Was in close contact with the Rabbis of the Land of Israel and the rabbis of North Africa who greatly appreciated him. Rabbi Yosef Mashash called him "King David HaCohen" in his letters.
On the 24th of Iyar 5709 (1949), he assembled all the members of his congregation in his home, and asked his wife to take his hands, wrapped himself in a shroud and gave a farewell speech to all present. At the end of his words he died at the age of 87.
Rabbi David Kanapo: (1863-1937), was one of the three righteous teachers of the Tribune Rabinic and the rabbi of the synagogue in Mogador. Was appointed Dayan in 1915. He was the head of the court of the city of Mogador (from 1925 until the day he died in 1937.) In contrast to his father, who was locked in halachic doors, he was very interested in what was happening in the world. The book "Nachlat Avot" by Rabbi Yitzchak Koriat, "and added to it all the same" as the author says.
It is said that during his time the authorities wanted to close the Beit Din because of the fact that there was almost no divorce in the Mogador, thanks to Rabbi David's great efforts to bring peace to the house. Rabbi David married Donna, daughter of Moshe and granddaughter of Rabbi Avraham Bohdana. Donna was a righteous woman who used to wander the doorways of the rich to make provisions and money for the poor. Rabbi David died at the age of 79, in the Kol Nidrei prayer of Yom Kippur. It was attended by all the people of the city, Jews, Muslims and Christians. For many years after his death, the Jews of Mogador, who considered him one of the righteous men of Magdor, would swear by his name.
