Interesting Family Letters sent to Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman [1938]

"... write something personal, all your letters are full of things that can help the whole world, but you don't write anything about yourself ..." Two letters written to Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman by his sister and his mother, and to Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik from his friend. Brisk [1938].

Specifications: [1] leaf, paper, sent from Brisk to Switzerland. 22x11 cm, featuring two letters (to save postal costs). The letter to Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman was written by his older sister, with a supplement from his mother, Rebbetzin Gitta Feiga Shteinman. Four lines in her hand and with her signature, in Yiddish. The letter to Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik was written by his friend Shmuel of Katelna, Hebrew.

Unique Features: This familial correspondence from Rabbi Aharon Leib's sister reveals his characteristic modesty. His sister, Golda, asks how he is, relates about the family and asks him to write personal experiences: "Write something personal. Your letters are full of things that can help the whole world, but you don't write anything about yourself."
She asks about his trip, his impressions of this new country, his acclimation to the foreign language and about his clothes. She also jokes that he can go skiing in the mountains. She mentions that Chayah Sarah (apparently their sister) is very smart and talks about Rabbi Aharon Leib.
Their mother added a few lines to her beloved son on the bottom of the letter.

Background: in 1938, two young men traveled from Brisk to Switzerland to evade the Polish military draft. This flight saved them from the horrors of the Holocaust and they eventually became prominent Torah leaders who rebuilt the Torah world after the Holocaust: Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik in Zurich, who led the European Torah world, and Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, leader of the Torah world in Israel. The letters on this one leaf were sent to both young men together, by a friend and family members who remained behind in Brisk.

Condition: Fine. Fold marks, minimal stains, small tears along the fold line that blemish the text. Wear in the corner, without blemish to text.
