Letter By Artist Marc Chagall

Long letter by Marc Chagall. Paris, 1933.

Specifications: [1] leaf, paper, written on both sides. 21X27 cm. Yiddish, in the handwriting and signature of the artist.

Artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was one of the most important surrealist artists, and is considered by many to be the greatest Jewish painter of all time. He was born in a Jewish Chassidic family in the vicinity of Vitebsk, which was part of the empire of Russia [now in Belarus]. He studied at the Academy of the Arts in St. Petersburg, moved to the Artists' Quarter in Paris [1910], returned to Russia [1914], moved to Lithuania [1922], resided in Berlin and returned to Paris [1923], fled the Nazis to the United States [1941], and returned to France [1949].

Unique Features: The artist signed 'Marc Chagall' and not Chagall as written in Yiddish.

Condition: Very fine. Fold marks and binder holes.
