Letter from the President of the United States - William H. Taft. White House, Washington, 1911

Letter from William H. Taft regarding a corrupt employee of the tax authority. White House, Washington, 1911.

Specifications: [1] leaf, stationery. Printed with blue ink and signed by the president. 18X25 cm.

Content: The president writes about William Park, a clerk in the tax authority and suggests that his employment be terminated due to inebriation, corruption and many absences.
Four months earlier, the addressee had convinced the president not to fire this employee, but at this point there is no way of preventing this action. It is possible that Taft's anger stemmed in part from the fact that he had previously served as a regional agent of the tax authorities in 1882-1883 and because this corrupt clerk worked in Ohio, the state in which Taft was born and raised.

William Howard Taft (1857-1930) was the 27th president of the United States (1909-1913). He was later appointed chief justice of the United States.

Condition: Fine-very fine, fold marks.
