Postcard with a Letter Handwritten by Hemda Ben-Yehuda – Sent to her Daughters in 1922
A postcard with a short letter handwritten by Hemda Ben-Yehuda to her daughters, Dolah [Devora] and Ada. Sent from Jerusalem to Paris, 1922.
A short letter written by hand, by Hemda Ben-Yehuda, to her daughters (signed "Mother"). Written on a postcard with a photograph of a stone pillar – an archaeological finding discovered in one of the excavations conducted by the British in Palestine, and presented as a gift to the garden of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda's house in Jerusalem. Next to Hemda's letter is a handwritten inscription about the photographed pillar: "…one of the two only pillars discovered in excavations… gift of the government by Sir Ronald Storrs" [first British governor of Jerusalem during the early days of the British Mandate].
14X9 cm. Good-fair condition. Creases, slight stains and defects. Small tear, open, to one of the top corners.
