Syrian Islamic pen holder ["kalmadan"] with decorated in gold. Device including a cup for scribe's ink and another for writing utensils.
The front of the kalmadan has various Arabic calligraphic inscriptions in delicate sawing work. Gold decorations on the inscriptions. Gold frame surrounding the inscriptions. Gilt decorations in various patterns on both sides of the kalmadan.
Length: 20 cm. Width: 4 cm. Height: 2.5 cm.
