Knife for cutting challa on Shabbat - Silver [hallmarked with a crescent and crown] chasing and repousse. Germany, start of the 20th century.
The handle of the knife has chasing and repoussee that depict a Jew making kiddush on wine at the Shabbat table, the upper section bears the words לכבוד שבת. Underneath there is a form of a Shabbat menorah and the text זכור את יום השבת לקדשו and a star of David. At the edge of the handle there is text: אכלו היום כי שבת היום לה'. On both sides of the margins of the handle there are decorative grape vines and flowers.
Signs of filing on the blade of the knife.
Length: 33 cm. Width: 3.5 cm. Fine condition.
