Autograph postcard addressed to R. Dovid Potash of Tel Aviv a well-known philanthropist and communal leader. Apparently, R. Potash had consulted with R. Elchonon about how to deal with a specific group of evildoers in Eretz Yisroel. R. Elchonon responds that in this instance it is better to refrain from taking action, since a positive outcome is not certain, and it is better not to confront the evildoers when fortune shines on them, particularly as they won’t listen anyway.
R. Elchonon Bunim Wasserman (1874-1941) studied at the Telshe Yeshiva under R. Lazer Gordon and R. Shimon Shkop, and later became a close disciple of R. Chaim Soloveitchik and the Chofetz Chaim. As Rosh Yeshiva in Baranovitch he was renowned for his clear and penetrating shiurim which attracted many students. His seforim, Kovetz Shiurim, Kovetz He’oros and Kovetz Ma’amorim are widely studied in Yeshivos. Additionally, he was very involved in communal matters and was one of the leaders of the Agudas Yisroel movement.
