Additional inscriptions.
On the book there is also a handwritten inscription by the Rebbe of Kock-Filov, Rabbi Chaim Yisrael Morgenstein, the grandson of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kock.
There are also ancient, interesting signatures that have not been deciphered and library stamps.
Ha'Saraf Ha'Kadosh Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kock (1787-1859) one of the most special Rebbes. He was well-known for his holiness, sharpness and decisive and exceptional leadership. He studied at the Beit Midrash of the Choze of Lublin and with Ha'Yehudi Ha'Kadosh of Przysucha and Rabbi Simcha Bonem of Przysucha. Since 1827, after the death of Rabbi Simcha Bonem, he served as a Rebbe, first of Tomaszów and then of Kock.
The Rebbe, Rabbi David Morgenstein of Kock (1809-1873), the son and replacer of his holy father and the disciple of Rabbi Simcha Bonem of Przysucha. After the death of Rabbi Simcha Bonem of Przysucha and his father, Rabbi Menachem Mendel, becoming the Rebbe, Rabbi David returned to his father's house in Tomaszów and one of his outstanding followers. After the death of his father, he replaced him as Rebbe of Kock and many of his father's Hassidim moved to his Beit Midrash. Like his father, his Divrei Tirah were also short and sharp. He is buried beside his father in Kock.
The Rebbe, Rabbi Chaim Yisrael (1840-1905) was a great Torah and Kabbala scholar. He was raised and educated by his father, Rabbi David of Kock and by his grandfather, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kock. After his father's death (in 1873) he started serving as a Rebbe in Kock. In 1888 he moved to Filov (near Lublin) yet continued to sign his name "Yisrael of Kock". His Hassidic court in Filov attracted many Hassidim. In 1891, he published the booklet "Shelom Yerushalayim" describing his views on the settling of the Land of Israel and the process of Geulah. The booklet was accepted with great enthusiasm by the greatest rabbis.
The Talmud before us is the Baba Metzi'a Tractate that was printed in Berlin. The title page is missing. It was most likely printed in 1725, as part of an edition that was printed in 1724-1725.
All the tractates that were printed in this edition are extremely rare and do not appear in libraries in Israel. The Bibliography of the Hebrew Book has listed the Baba Metzi'a of this edition according to a copy of the Oxford Library.
The book begins on pp. 2: (beside the title page, two additional pages are probably missing).
At the end of the tractate, "Chidushei Hilchot Maharsha Mahadurei Batra im Chidushei Aggadot shel Chatano Ha'Gaon Maharam" are printed and then a page of prayers and a page of "Chilufei Girsa'ot Ve'Hagahot…"
119 pp [which are 236 pp.], 120-130, [1] pp.
13x19 cm.
Condition: Good. The pages are worn as well as the original ancient cover. The cover is slightly loose. Time stains. The forsatz at the end of the book, with handwritten inscriptions, is detached.
