Machaneh Efrayim Responsa - Stamps of the Rebbe Rabbi Shalom Eliezet Halberstam of Ratzfert - [a Copy He Inherited from His Father the Rebbe the 'Divrei Chaim'?] - Candle Wax that had Dripped While He Studied from the Book - Glosses
Machaneh Efrayim Responsa by Rabbi Efrayim Navon. Zholkva 1832. Second edition.
Approbations by the geniuses of the generation: the Chatam Sofer, Rabbi Ya'akov Orenstein of Lvov and the Maharatz Chayut who wrote about the importance and uniqueness of the book.
The title page is missing. The stamp of the Rebbe Rabbi "Shalom Eliezer Halberstam … Ratzfert" appears on the Forsazt leaf and the leaf of approbations. His stamp also appears on leaf 43 and in two additional places.
The leaves of the book indicate that the Rebbe had studied from it. Among others, there are stains of candle wax [on at least seven leaves] from the candle in light of which the Rebbe had studied. At least some of the Sugiyot that are printed on these specific leaves are referred to by the 'Divrei Chaim' responsa that was authored by his father Rabbi Chaim of Sanz. Thus, it is most likely that the book before us had belonged to the Rebbe of Sanz and from it he had studied! Only after his death had the book been passed on to his son, the Rebbe of Rztfert.
Handwritten pencil glosses (on leaves 10 and 14, possibly by the Rebbe of Raztfert.
[2], 69, 45 [should be 44] leaves. 36 cm.
Condition: Good. The title page is missing. The leaf of approbations is torn with omission of text. Moth signs. A tear with omission in the last leaf of indices.
