Rabbi Yesha'aya Bennet (1793-1866) was one of the most prominent rabbis of Hungary. He was the son of Rabbi Mordechai Bennet. He was known for his genius and piety. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Elazar Löw author of "Shemen Rokeach". He was a rabbi in Morava and after the death of his father and the spread of the Jewish Enlightenment, he moved to Kalov in Hungary. There he replaced the "Tzaddik of Kalov" and was chosen as the Chief Rabbi of the Szabolcs county. He was one of the leaders of the struggle against Reform Judaism in Hungary and was one of the six rabbis who submitted a request to the King Franz Joseph to permit the separation of orthodox communities from the neologic ones.
