Zayit Ra'anan - the Copy of its Author, Rabbi Moshe Leib Zilberberg, Av Beit Din of Kutno and Later the Rabbi of Jerusalem - with Glosses and Additions in His Handwriting - Dedication by the Author's Grandson Rabbi Naftali Chaim Zilberberg
Zayit Ra'anan Responsa by Rabbi Moshe Leib [Zilberberg], the rabbi of Kutno [first section]. Warsaw, 1851. First edition, printed in the author's lifetime.
Unlike most copies, this copy had wide margins.
Throughout the book, several glosses whose content indicate that they were written by the author himself. In several of the glosses, passages that had been omitted were added and in one of them, it is explicitly written: "omitted".
A most significant item! It should be noted that the handwriting of the Rabbi of Kutno, author of 'Zayit Ra'anan' is extremely rare and is almost nonexistent. Has never been seen in actions!
On the title page of the book, a nice dedication handwritten and signed by the author's grandson, Rabbi Chaim Naftali Zilberberg: "Belongs to the Avrech Reb Shlomo Segal Levi of Vershov - the son-in-law of my brother-in-law Rabbi M. Mendel Segal … - Tuesday the 12th of Elul 1908. Writing and signing here Breslau. Chaim Ya'akov Naftali Zilberberg".
The author, Rabbi Moshe Leib Zilberberg served as the Rabbi of Jerusalem together with Rabbi Meir Auerbach and Rabbi Shmuel Salant. Before he immigrated to the Land of Israel, he was considered one of the geniuses of Poland. He was born in Lunshitz in 1794. He served as the rabbi of several towns and eventually of Kutno, for which he was known as "the Rabbi of Kutno". In 1857 he immigrated to the Land of Israel and settled in Jerusalem. He died in 1865.
On the title page of the book, stamps of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Ha'Levi Wohlman of Vershov, who inherited the library of the 'Zayit Ra'anan' after his death.
The section before us was printed during its author's lifetime. On the last leaf, a list of subscribers from dozens of communities in Poland. The second section was printed 18 years later, after the author's death.
4, 12, 89 [should be 189], [1] leaves. 38 cm.
