'Tosafot Rishon L'Tziyon' written on top - (glosses on Seder Kadshim by Rabbi Yishayahu Berlin) "Gift from Rabbi Elchanan son of Shmuel HaKohen of Beit Midrash Ohel Sarah on condition it is not removed from the Beit Midrash without permission of the gabbai." appears in the handwriting of Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv. Stamp of the Beit Midrash "Ohel Sarah" on the lower right.
The 'Ohel Sarah' synagogue was established in 1890 - Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv learned on his own with tremendous diligence for many long years in the synagogue.
Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv [1910-1912] was born in Shavel, Lithuania as an only son after 17 years of marriage. In 1934, he immigrated to Israel with his family who settled in the Meah Shearim neighborhood in Jerusalem. He served as dayan in the Great Rabbinical Court and eventually became the greatest adjudicator of the generation.
