Rabbi Yerucham Fishel Perlow of Warsaw (1846-1934), a renowned Torah scholar from Poland who in his later years immigrated to Jerusalem. At the age of 15 he went to study Torah from Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Diskin in Lomza, he later studied in Volozhin from the Netziv and soon became his disciple. He later moved to Brisk where he studied from Rabbi Chaim HaLevi Soloveitchik. He had an enormous library in his house, one of the largest in Poland at the time. Known for his great work on Rabbi Sa'adya Gaon's Book of Mitzvot which he wrote for almost 40 years. It is told that for 14 years while writing the book he did not leave his house and did not see sunlight, his wife would bring him his meals through a narrow window and he would hear Kaddish and Kedusha through his house windows. Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld said about this work that 'one should know that it is not humanly possibly to write such a work without efforts of forty years and unending dedication'. He is known for his Hagahot HaGri"p which are printed in the margins of several books. When describing the style his novaelle were written Rabbi Yehuda Leib HaCohen Maimon wrote: "I saw him several times when he sat and wrote his novaelle, his hands were shaking and burning as he wrote one line after another, all in sanctity, with caution, clarity, certainty..."
