Non-traditional haggada - Kibbutz Menorah [1947]

Non-traditional haggada with illustrations. Stencil print. Print exclusively on the left side of the leaf.

The Haggada opens with original texts based on Medrashim from Chazal regarding the exile and exodus from Egypt. Also includes difficult texts regarding the suffering of thd Jewish Nation in exile and in Eretz Israel: "A generation of vicissitudes and threats, in every gate there is battles and the heavens are burning with smoke, the ground is wallowing in blood. I threw my hope to the sea and my ship hurried to no shore, homeland I called, homeland, but the homeland is also pain." Along with passages expressing hope: "All of a sudden the generation of strength will awaken, a generation of military heroes and their eyes shine and their faces are aflame and their hands ready for swords...now days are arriving and the place where we should go will be for us, and the strong ones who are now pouring their blood for the honor of their sisters and the life of their mothers for nothing will go there with happiness and the work will begin..."

Additionally includes difficult references to the suffering of the Jewish Nation throughout history and during the Holocaust: "There we were in every field a calamity of depressed people in all the "exoduses from Egypt" of all the nations and in all the generations on the gallows and on the stake in prisons and barricades, but even if we fall seven times, we will get up and be encouraged...."

The National Library has the haggadot from Kibbutz Menorah for almost all years of the 1940s. However, it does not have this one.

[32] leaves. 21 cm. Jacket title page pasted to reinforcing paper. Small tear with loss to the jacket title page that has been professionally repaired. The back binding is missing its upper and lower section, but matching paper has been added. Stains.
