"Mos HaBa'al Shem." Story handwritten by the author, József Patai

Literary creation regarding the death of the Baal Shem, handwritten by Jozsef Patai.

Jozsef Patai (Klein) [1882-1953] was an author, translator, poet, biographer and Zionist leader in Hungary. He studied in the great Hungarian yeshivot, but then moved over to Hebrew poetry and general haskala. He earned himself a high school diploma and doctorate, helped found the Zionist "Maccabiah" organization and the "Agudat Yehudei Hungaria L'Safrut" [Jewish Hungarian literary society], and initiated the activities of the "Vaad L'Maan Eretz Yisrael" [committee for Palestine]. He published literary studies and translations over many years. In 1938, he immigrated to Palestine and corresponded with the leading authors in the country. In 1943, a four-volume set of his writings were published.
