A Collection of Receipts – The Distribution of the ‘Va’ad HaKlali’. With the Handwritten Signature of the Great Figures of Jerusalem, 1904-1958
A fascinating collection of receipts from the Kollel distribution, which all the great Rabbis of Jerusalem of the previous generation received. They confirmed receipt of the monthly stipend with their handwritten signature. Most of the Old Yishuv depended on the Chaluka money for their very survival. Among the recipients: Rabbi Meshulam Zusia Twersky [1917-1988] – the Rebbe of Chernobyl, (5 lira). Rabbi Aryeh Levin [1885-1969] – father of the prisoners (150 grush). The Rebbe Rabbi David Twersky of Rachmatriskva [1872-1950] (one lira). Rabbi Zerach Reuven Braverman [died in 1938] – Rosh Yeshiva of the Meah Shearim Yeshiva and one of the foremost Rabbis of Jerusalem. (54.20). Rabbi Avraham Elyashiv [1877-1943] – the Rabbi of Gomel (500 mil). The receipt is signed by his son Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.
