Charity Box - Yeshivat HaNegev. 1960's

Charity Box of Yeshivat HaNegev "Azatah" Netivot, founded by Rabbi Yissachar Meir.

The buildings of the yeshiva and desert camels are shown on the facade of the box with the verse: 'A voice crying in the wilderness make way, etc." On the back there are verses from the prophet Ovadiah and sayings of the sages concerning settling the Negev and the power of Torah learning in the South. ["This exiled host the children of Israel... and the exile of Jerusalem which is in Spharad will inherit the cities of the Negev..." And a saying of the sages from Baba Batera "He who wants to become wise should go south."]

Yeshivat HaNegev was established in the beginning of the 1960's by the gaon Rabbi Yissachar Meir with the purpose of strengthening religion in the south of Israel and it had a significant role in the development of chareidi communities in the area. Many who were educated in 'high-school yeshivas' became chareidi under the influence of the yeshiva.

Size: 13x10 cm.
