A booklet in Yiddish of the Culture and Propaganda Department of the National Centre of the Mizrachi Movement and Torah Ve'Avoda Movement in Austria. The booklet contains a collection of essays on Gush Etzion and its destruction in 1948, including photographs of pioneers.
The settlement attempt in the area of Gush Etzion (south of Jerusalem) began in 1927, yet failed several times due to Arab riots from the late twenties and during the thirties. During the years 1943-1947, four settlements were founded – Kfar Etzion, Masu'ot Yitzchak, Ein Zuring and Revadim. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, the Arabs sieged the Gush settlements and cut the supply routes. The women and children had been evacuated earlier while the men tried to fight and defend themselves and their settlements. A day before the establishment of the State, on 13/5/1948, Kfar Etzion fell and its warriors were massacred by the Arab Legion and the residents of the area.
This booklet was printed in Yiddish as religious-Zionist propaganda for the surviving remnants who lived in the Displaced Persons Camp. Two such camps were established in the area of Lintz in Austria and above 150,000 Jews of the surviving remnants went through them.
