1. Shma Kolenu Prayer Book, printed by the Chief Rabbi of Stockholm, the Worldwide Jewish Congress and the Union for Helping European Jews, December 1945.
The prayer book was printed by the Swedish branch of the Worldwide Jewish Congress together with the Chief Rabbi Mordechai Ehrenpreis. The book was printed after World War II in 50,000 copies for the surviving remnants. This edition was photocopied from the Sfat Emet prayer book, published by Redelheim, and the explanations in German was substituted for typewritten Hebrew.
Rabbi Mordechai Ehrenpreis (1869-1951) was born in Lemberg and acquired his education in Germany. Since his youth, he edited Yiddish writings and published articles in 'Ha'Magid' and 'Ha'Melitz'. He was a Zionist activist who promoted the idea of Jewish nationality in the Land of Israel and helped Herzl organize the first Zionist congress. During the years 1900-1914, he served as the Chief Rabbi of Bulgaria. Afterwards, until he died, he was the Chief Rabbi of Sweden. At the beginning of World War II, he abstained from pressuring the government to save Jews; however, later on, he was involved in appealing to the king of Sweden, which assisted Raoul Wallenberg's rescue mission.
