Portrait of Rabbi Ephraim (ben Israel) Elnkaoua (Alnaqua) of Tlemcen (1359-1442). Featuring vignettes of: The rabbi’s arrival on lion-back with rein of snake; the Synagogue; the “source,” or ritual bath of the rabbi; the entrance to the cemetery; the tomb of the rabbi. All adorned with cornucopia of motifs, Stars-of-David, a crown of Torah and an open Hebrew book flanked by rampant lions.
Lithograph with texts in Hebrew and French with all in tones of green and beige. Unexamined out of frame. 11 x 15 inches to frame.
