The Bnei Akiva Movement – Two Personal Items of Its Founder Yechiel Eliash

Yechiel Aharon Eliash (1908-1997) was the founder of Bnei Akiva and Mishmarot Elitzur and responsible for the religious companies of the Haganah.
Before us are two personal items that belonged to him, which are related to his public activity:
A. Certificate of Semel Ha'Haganah. By the 'Chavrei Ha'Haganah' organization. Tel Aviv district. Contains his personal details (nickname: "Ben Baruch"), his picture and signature. Signatures of two members of the committee. 1995. 2 pp. with a binding.
B. Passport. Palestine Government. 1947. Contains his personal details and picture. 32 pp. Only the first pages were filled in by hand. Was given to him before he was sent on a mission to Czechoslovakia (the name written under his picture: "Yehuda (!) A. Eliash").
Yechiel Aharon Eliash was born in Bialystok. He studied in a Cheider and later at the Lomzhe Yeshiva, there he was a Zionist activist of "Ha'Mizrachi". In 1925, he immigrated to the Land of Israel with an immigration certificate sent to him so he could study at the "Merkaz Ha'Rav" Yeshiva. While he studied at the yeshiva, he was also an active member of 'Ha'Poel Ha'Mizrachi'.
On Lag Ba'Omer 1929 he founded the religious youth movement of Bnei Akiva.
During the 1929 Palestine Riots, he was recruited as a member of the Haganah and for a month protected the Jews of the Old City of Jerusalem. He was the founder of the religious companies of the Haganah. He also founded the religious sports movement of Elitzur, which served, among others, as camouflage for military activity.
In 1955, he became the director of 'Ha'Tzofeh' newspaper.
