Collection of Cards of Jewish Boys and Girls who were given to Christian Families during the Holocaust and Letters by Rabbis about the Saving of the Children – English and Hebrew – 1957-1960
Unusual, historical item!
1. 13 cards with the details of Jewish children from Poland: their names, address in Poland, date of birth, city of birth [in some cases] and the parents' names. English. With pictures. Two cards do not include pictures.

2. Two official letters [stencil] of the Ministry of Religious Services, 1957, Hebrew. Two letters are about the saving of Jewish children who still live with Christian families. The first letter was written on the 5th of Av 1957 by Rabbi Ze'ev Gotthold and it is addressed to Dr. Ya'akov Grifel New York. The second is from the 22nd of Elul 1957 and it is addressed to Rabbi Forehand New York. Rabbi Gotthold notes that 520 such children are known of in Holland as well as in other European countries. He cautions that the treatment of these children should be taken out of the hands of Ha'Shomer Ha'Tza'ir and that a "religious Kibbutz or institution should be established especially for these children".
3. Hebrew Letter [typewritten] to Rabbi Chaim Kreiswirth, the rabbi of Antwerp, Belgium, 1948. About the savinf of children, especially from Poland. Not signed [most likely also written by Rabbi Gotthold].

Stencil letters: 40x30 cm.
Typewritten leaf: 28x21 cm.
Condition: Good. The margins of the typewritten leaf are torn.
