The passport contains many visas and stamps, Frankfurt and Hamburg, 1938, German, English, French and Spanish.
The passport is of Carl Darmesteter, born on 20.7.1895 in Frankfurt am Mein. It was issued in February 1938. The one who gave him a visa for Britain in November 1938 was the righteous gentile, the British diplomat Arthur Dauden.
Dauden became famous after the Kristallnacht in November 1938. Dauden, with his supervisors, took steps to help the Jewish community of Frankfurt: with the car of the consulate, they drove through the town brining food to the houses of the Jews of the town, who were forbidden to leave them due to the curfew. Moreover, in the days after Kristallnacht, he protected the Jews against attacks of the S.S. and other Nazi supporters by allowing them entry to the building of the British consulate in Frankfurt.
Above all, in the months after Kristallnacht, Duaden authorized several thousands of German Jews to enter Britain or other countries of the British Empire, bypassing bureaucratic obstacles. He also gave visas to people who were legally forbidden to enter the British area.
Here we have a historical discovery: surprising evidence that Dauden helped a Jew several days before Kristallnacht!
The passport:
Darmesteter left Germany several times, probably on business trips, and there are many stamps on the passport.
