Letter of Torah novellae sent by Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to his "mechuten" Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky, the "Steipler". [1980].
[2] pages. Handwritten. Lengthy letter with Torah novellae that opens with honorifics for his mechutan, the "Steipler". The letter is not signed.
Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv [1910-2012] was born in Šiauliai, Lithuania, an only child born to his parents after seventeen years of marriage. In 1924, he immigrated to Palestine with his family and settled in Meah Shearim, Jerusalem. As a boy, he assisted his grandfather, kabalist Rabbi Shlomo Elyashiv with his prominent work "Leshem Shvo V'Achlma". He studied in various beit midrashim in Jerusalem, served as dayan on the rabbinate's Supreme Beit Din and was the foremost halachic authority of the generation. His daughter Batsheva a"h married Rabbi Chaim Kanivesky, the son of Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky – the "Steipler".
