Handwritten Anecdotes and Sermons. Six Volumes. Caucasia. [1883-1889]
Large collection of anecdotes, folklore, folk stories, sermons and hymns, collected and copied by Yaakov ben Shalom Rabinowitz – Mizrachi. Azerbaijan, [1883-1889].
[240] leaves bound in six volumes. Various Oriental scripts on different papers, by one copier.
Some of the anecdotes were copied from the book "Aseh Pelah" written by Yosef Shabtai Farchi which was first printed in 1864. Includes 'Terrible anecdote with the chassid R' Pinchas', 'Story of the Priest who Troubled the Jews', 'Ma'ase R' Bustenai', and more (volume 1). 'Story of King Solomon', and more (volume 2). 'Sermon on the Destruction of Jerusalem, " and more (volume 3). Tikunei Shabbat and Zemirot by the Arizal, (volume 4). Sefer Ben Sira, (volume 5). 'Story of R' Yosef Dila Reina' (volume 6). At the end of the third volume, the copier writes that 'I wrote this idea when I was young'. He signed his names many times at the end of the copies, and there are other known volumes that he copied in Quba and other cities in Azerbaijan between 1883-1927. On occasion, he added the name "Mizrachi" to his name.
New leather bindings, preserved in a nice cardboard slipcase. Aging stains. Clear, legible script. Overall fine-very fine condition.
