Getaufte und Badgetaufte. Vienna, 1919. Rare
Getaufte und Baldgetaufte by Beda [Fritz Lohner]. Vienna, 1919.
47 [1] page, colored jacket title page. 17.5 cm. German
Poem in German by Austrian Jewish poet, Fritz Lohner. With illustration by Carl Jose.
Fritz Lohner was born in 1883 in Wildenschwert, Bohemia (today Usti nad Orlici, Czech Republic). In 1888, his family moved to Vienna, and in 1896 he changed his surname to Lohner – a name without a Jewish connotation. He studied law at the Vienna University, and after earning his doctorate, worked as a lawyer. He was one of the founders of the HaKoach sports club in Vienna in 1909. On the 1st of April, 1938, right after the Anschluss, he was arrested and sent to the Dachau internment camp. In September 1938, he was transferred to Buchenwald where he authored his noted concentration camp anthem, "Das Buchenwaldlied". He died in Auschwitz at the end of 1942.
This work was printed a number of times. This is rare edition that is not in the National library. Small sticker on the edge of the jacket. Very fine condition.
