Autograph letter written to R. Elchonon Jackobowitz regarding financial matters of the Va’ad Ha’Yeshivos. Dated the beginning of Adar R. Chaim Ozer writes of his great distress at not being able to assist financially at present but hopefully after Purim some funds will be raised and then he will be able to help.
R. Chaim Ozer Grodzinski (1863-1940) was born into a distinguished rabbinical family as was renowned from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with great diligence. He originally learned in Eishishok and later in Volozhin studying under R. Chaim Soloveitchik. He married the daughter of R. Eliyahu Eliezer Grodensky — the leading Rav of Vilna (son-in-law of R. Yisroel Salanter) whom he later succeeded. He dedicated his life to the needs of the Jewish People was recognized as the leading Posek and spiritual guide of his generation, answering halachic queries from all parts of the world and being consulted on every Jewish communal issue. He played an instrumental role in preserving Lithuanian yeshivas during the Communist era, and saved the yeshivas of Poland and Russia during the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939, when he arranged for these yeshivas to relocate to Lithuanian cities.
