Postcard, "Souvenir from the liberation of Jerusalem" by General Allenby on Hanukkah 1917. Published by the artist Ya'akov Ben-Dov, Bezalel, Jerusalem, [1918/1919]. A rare historical postcard! On the reverse side of the postcard: "Souvenir by ---Ben Dov" (artist's signature?). the upper part of the postcard is damaged.
Rare early photograph of "Batei Machaseh". The photograph depicts the "Batei Machaseh" neighborhood in the Old City of Jerusalem.
On the right side of the photograph, the central structure of the neighborhood, "Beit Rothschild" (which still exists today). On the upper left corner, the portrait of Rabbi Azriel Zelig Hoisdorf wearing the decoration given to him by the Prussian government. On the upper part of the photograph a printed German inscription indicating that the neighborhood was built with the assistance of Hoisdorf in 1858 (by mistake, the year 1818 was printed) – the year Hoisdorf was sent as a Shadar to Europe to raise funds for the building of the neighborhood.
There are no details of the date the photograph was taken or the photographer's identity. It was most likely produced in 1900-1910.
The margins of the photograph are worn and damaged.
