An upright Hanukkah lamp made of silver, impressive and particularly nice. Germany, 1901.
On the base of the lamp, a plaque made of bone, with a black, engraved inscription: "Souvenir from the dedication of the new synagogue of the Essen community". The plaque is held by two lions and has a crown above it. Under it, a silver plaque with the inscription: "M. C. Lezer dedit A° 5661" - 1901.
It was most likely given as a gift by the community of Essen to the synagogue of the town or the county. Jews had lived in Essen for hundreds of years.
It seems that the lamp was originally made by a Judaica artist from two separate parts. Different silver stamps of the same period: on the base of the lamp, Dutch stamps; on its upper part, Austrian stamps.
The base of the lamp is decorated.
The upper part is decorated with spherical hoops with geometric patterns and a line of silver beads.
The branches are also decorated.
Above the Shamash of the lamp, a vulture.
Height: 64 cm.
Width: 43 cm.
Diameter of base: 22 cm.
Weight: approximately 2.5 kg.
