Responsa of the Mahari Colon. Cremona, 1557. Printing press of Vincenzo Conti. Second edition. Binyahu, Cremona 14, Mehlman Collection, Ginzei Yisrael 773.
On the title page, the year of printing is: 1557. However, in the colophon: “And it was completed…17 Cheshvan… 1558”.
Second edition of the responsa book of Rabbi Yosef Colon, one of the great early Poskim. With indexes of the responsa according to the order of Maimonides.
On page [12a] “Song and praise…to the author”, which begins: “I will search thoroughly to fill my mouth with laughter, my tongue with celebration, my lips with praise.”
The title page is illustrated with a woodcut which depicts the binding of Isaac.

On the title page is the signature of Rabbi Yosef Elmaliach, Rabbi of Gibraltar.
Among the book’s leaves are dozens of in-depth and important glosses from different writers. Some appear to be from the 16th century. Most of them in Italian handwriting. Corrections of errors were also recorded by hand. In several responsa are signs of erasing due to the censor.

[12] 173 [should be: 172] leaves. 30 cm.
Condition: Very Good. New and pleasant leather binding. A preserved copy in wonderful condition. Printed on thick paper with wide margins. The very few blemishes on the title page were restored. Restored tear on one of the leaves with damage to a number of words. Slight restorations in the corners of a number of leaves. Slight water damage. Tiny moth stains on a few leaves.
