Two Leaves of the "Chidushei Tzarfat" Manuscript - the Late 15th Century
Two leaves of the manuscript of "Chidushei Tzarfat" or the commentary of Ba'alei Ha'Tosafot on the Torah, as was printed in the book "Hadar Zkenim" (Livorno, 1840). The late 15th century.
A very important evidence of the prevalence of this Ashkenazic composition among the Sephardic communities in the late 15th century.
From the evaluation of Prof. Binyamin Richler of the National Library:
Segments from the end of Parashat Miketz and the beginning of Parashat Vayigash and from Parashat Vayechi have survived. There are almost no changes from what has been printed. There are 6-7 additional manuscripts of this composition in Ashkenazic, Sephardic and Byzantine script.
This manuscript was written in Sephardic script, most likely during the late 15th century.
This is evidence of an additional manuscript of this "Ashkenazic" composition, which was widespread in Spain as well in the 15th century and it joins other manuscripts of the composition which were written outside of Ashkenaz. It is also evidence of the popularity of the composition during the late Middle Ages.
