The Straps of the Tefillin of the Mussar Genius Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian Author of "Lev Eliyahu"
The Straps of the Tefillin of Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian.
Rabbi Elya Lopian was born in Grajewo, Poland in 1876. When he was nine years old, he refused to move with his family to the USA since there were hardly any religious institutions there. Therefore, he remained alone to study at the yeshiva of Łomża and later at the Beit Midrash of Kelm with Rabbi Simcha Zissel Ziv, the Alter of Kelm. He married Sarah Leah, the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchak David Rothman, a disciple of the Alter of Kelm.
Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian was known as one of the outstanding figures of the Beit Midrash of Kelm. During World War I, he remained there with his students, unlike most of the other residents of the town. After the war, he started travelling through the towns of Lithuania, giving lessons.
He emigrated to England in 1928, where he served as the Rosh Yeshiva of the Etz Chaim Yeshiva in the East End of London. In 1950 he left the Etz Chaim Yeshiva and moved to Israel. With the blessing of the Chazon Ish, he acted as Mashgiach Ruchani at the Knesset Chizkiyahu yeshiva in Zichron Ya'akov.
His teachings were published in the "Lev Eliyahu" series of books.
As a disciple of the Kelm Talmud Torah method, he was known for his strict keeping of order and strong self-control. It is told that he would not turn his head without a reason and a structured decision.
Condition: Good.
