Letter by Rabbi Yehuda Meir Abramowitz to the Association of Agudat Israel workers in the Land of Israel, addressed to Rabbi Dr. Kalman Kahane, regarding Daf Yomi [the daily Talmud page]
Letter by Rabbi Yehuda Meir Abramowitz, dated Nissan 5713 (1953) regarding the completion of the worldwide daily Talmud page project.
In this moving letter, Rabbi Abramowitz, representing “The Central Committee for the Celebration of the Completion of the Daf Yomi Talmud project,” requests that Rabbi Kahane notify all chapters of the association of Agudat Israel workers to hold meetings and mitzvah feasts on the 28th of Nissan, the day of the completion of the Talmud, and to render mandatory the study of the Daf Yomi for all members of the association. Rabbi Abramowitz explains that “with the establishment of the State of Israel and the gathering of the People of Israel thereof, its religious organizations must motivate their friends and followers… to accept the daily obligation to study the daily Talmud page… especially in times of spiritual anxiety and decline…”
The letter is typed, and bears the handwritten signature of Rabbi Abramowitz.
Rabbi Yehuda Meir Abramowitz (1914-1907), chairman of the executive committee of Agudat Israel from 1980 until his passing, served also as the secretary-general of Agudat Israel during the establishment of the State of Israel, and served as one of the party’s Members of Knesset.
