The Book of Esther on parchment, hand-illustrated by Shmuel Ben David. With the stamp "Bezalel Jerusalem." In its original box – an olive wooden box with raised likenesses of the Western Wall and the graves of the kings of the Davidic dynasty.
Shmuel Ben-David (1884 - 1927) was one of the greatest artists of Bezalel. He began studying art at the Academy of Arts in Sofia, where he was a student of Boris Schatz. When Bezalel was established, Ben-David immigrated to Eretz Yisrael at the invitation of Schatz, and studied in the first class of the school. He worked there with rugs and carpets as a senior student and then as a teacher. In 1919, he began teaching perspective and decoration at the school. He was a member of the Hebrew Artisans Association, and served as its chairman.
The scroll and the box are in very good condition.
Very rare, especially in this condition!
