HISTORIC PHOTO OF A TRAINING KIBBUTZ IN GERMANY, RAISING THE FLAG OF “BEITAR”. GIVEN A GIFT TO AHARON PROPES, THE FIRST “BEITARIN”
Historic photograph that was given to Aharon Tzvi Propes. The story of the photo was written in short on the back of it, shortly after it was taken:
“Training Kibutz Feldfing (Germany), Raising the flag. To our dear officer Propes - a souvenir”.
This Kibbutz was a DP camp on the Shternberg riverbank in the Bavarian aria, which belonged to the Revisionist movement. Gathered at the camp were Holocaust survivors, there they recovered from the horrors of the war and were engaged in Zionist training and preparation for immigration to Israel were they would establish agricultural settlement.
Aharon Tzvi Propes (1904-178) was the “first Beitarian”. In his youth he joined “Young Zion” movement. In 1923 he organized an activist group that supported the ideology of Zeev Z’abutinsky. When the decision on establishing the “Trumpeldor Union” came through, Propes was chosen to stand at its head. He was one of higher commanders of “Global Beitar”, and in 1938 was chose to be one of the commanding officers of the” Beitar” movement. During his years in Poland he was the editor of “Beitars” Dailey newspaper “HaMedinah”. He also served as “Beitars” first commissioner.
Excellent condition.
