Invitation to a dinner of Chevrah Sandeka'us. Budapest, Hanukkah, 1936. Rare historical document.
Invitation form for a family dinner in a restuarant, attended by the representatives of the orthodox and Neolog communities for the "Chevrah Sandeka'us" charity which funded Bris Milah and assisted poor mothers, on its 100th anniversary.
[1] leaf, thick paper, 19X12 cm. Hungarian with Hebrew terms and date. On the back of the invitation "Table of the Times of Prayers for Passover", handwritten, Hebrew and Hungarian.
Chevrah Sandeka'us - was established in Budapest in the 19th century. Such a society existed in many Jewish communities to assist poor families after the birth of their child, including meals for the mothers, the feast of the Bris Milah and sometime the mother's medical expenses. According to the regulations of the Chevrah, its members were the Sandakim of these Britos. In many communities, additional social institutions operated alongside this one, including the Chevrah Kaddisha, Bikkur Cholim, Gemilus Chessed, Shas, Tehillim, Mishnayos, Bachurim, Ner Tamid and more.
Fold marks, stains, blemishes to the perimeter of the leaf not affecting the text. Fair-good condition.
